Anyone else heard of Obama's Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act? It specifically mentioned "flavored" cigarettes though when referring to cloves. Rationally, I would assume that would not apply to pure clove products, because they contain no tobacco? Edit: Nevermind. It does look like that cloves cigarettes have been buggered. Seems unnecessary. It isn't life changing to me, but I didn't mind the smell of clove cigarettes. As far as I know, contrary to popular belief, there are no pure clove cigarettes. I find it irritating that menthol is not banned. However, hookahs are not threatened; the specific section mentions cigarettes. From the irony desk: Haji Jamahri, a resident of Kudus, Java, created kreteks in the early 1880s as a means to deliver the medicinal eugenol of cloves to the lungs, as it was thought to help asthma. You can still have them shipped to you via the internet, but barring a generalized public outcry (which I believe will happen once people realize that their litghts and milds aren't available anymore) there isn't really anything else to be done. The biggest issue with this bill is that it was written up, voted on in the house and senate, and then passed with very little publicity. In other words: they kept it from public knowledge as much as possible, knowing that the public would take umberage with the bill. Thoughts? Does the noise in my head bother you?

It's completely outside of their authority, that's why. Tobaccoa products are neither "food", as in we don't eat them, nor "Drugs" in that there is no medicinal use for them. Therefore, the FDA has no business regulating anything about this. Personally, I believe the FDA is a huge problem anyway. They are one of the biggest reasons the heath care system in this country is such a mess. Does the noise in my head bother you?

As much as I agree with you about how flawed the FDA is and how it is to blame for our health care system, but Nicotine is in cigerettes and Nicotine IS a drug. And some say tobacco is but that is still up for debate as to whether it is or not.

The only reason why this delivery system has remained unregulated is not due to any particular principle, but the fact that tobacco is a livelihood for some very rich folks. That's all.
