How do we get COIN? |
Lead | |
|
The Forgotten Ones turned in ALL of our coin to win the feast contest. There is a campout in 2 weeks... Can we get some coin back? I personally donated over
1000 physical coins... So... what's up?

Good luck with that. Devious would be the one to ask, but last time I heard him telling someone, there wasn't even 1000 coin left, and only 10 of what was
left was gold.

I have a good chunk I earned over the last few events it's not quite a 1000 but it will help I'll be turning in first thing at campout so that should
help. I will hope others will do the same. my last info from being on the EB had us in the process of ordering and we were at the red tape stage with the coin
company so I am sure it wont be long now

what it really needs is all the people who lock thier coin in safety deposit boxes to bring them out and have on thier person, or some. No wonder there are problems with thieves not being used, no one carries any freakin coin. I know personally that Aquilonia's physical coffers are dry because we disperse coin to the realm on a campout basis. The game of darkon really needs people to start paying for things in coin, such as poisons or potions or campout items, no paper money, thats ridiculous. Stop protecting your money and bring it into the game. Darkon money belongs to the game of darkon, not to the individuals.

I paid for my poisons and the silvering of a weapon last event, and that wiped out all but a few of my coin (I have less than 10 gold in coin, and a few old
silvers I am saving for nostalgia sake...a few TR, a few with blank sides, and a few Mordomian ones).
Those of you who have sacks and boxes full of coin need to start getting it back into the game. It doesn't do any of us any good if it's in your closet. The game is getting ready to buy a new run of coin, but we need to start seeing it on the field. |

I though you had to carry coin with you, being able to hide it all doesnt make any sense...
Is Darkon going into an economical crisis too? haha |

coin vs. paper transfer | ||
|
I have been saying for years that I am of the opinion that "paper" country coffers should only be allowed to be used for "country scale" things such as searching land and building structures. And if you want to buy anything in the game, such as silvering a weapon, making/buying poison, potions, scrolls, or just about anything else on a "character scale", that you should have to use physical coin to do so. And Bloody Axe needs to stop accepting paper transfers for our contracts and start dealing in primarily in physical coin. Sad as it is to say, our collective cache of physical coin is dangerously low. If Bloody Axe is low on physical coin.... yeah, you know the realm is in a financial crisis.

Unless I'm overruled, but as a marshal, i won't be accepting paper transfers for poisons potions or scrolls. Thanks goes out to everyone that made poison or potions or scrolls on sun. You keep the game the way its supposed to be.

There are pix from the campout that the contest closed on of how much the FO turned in. I'm out. I need it back because unliek others I DO SPEND IT.
I dont understand how devious dosnt have at least the 1000+ coins (at least half were gold) that I turned in at the last campout. Much less the other coin
that I saw being turned in...

personally i think we need to move away from coin. its never going to be solved how to keep people from hording it, and is a needless expense for the club.
paper money is the way to go. its far cheaper.

At any given campout, five people will show up around pit fight times and want 100-200 coin each. At day events, before he gets there, I get 10 people asking me where he is ten minutes into check-in. People take out a ton of coin.

Cog the Scourge wrote:Pointless. You'll just cause many people to go the route of more paperwork. I turn all of my coin into Devious because I know how little Darkon has. Now I'll have to go write a writ, take x amount of coin out, give it to you, who will then turn it back into Devious... See where the extra step in there is pointless?

Perhaps a system of accountability is needed...Some way to FORCE people to use the coin they take out. If country A takes out a ton of coin, figure out a way
that will force them to use it in game. make it so they can't do something with their coffers unless they have actually used the coin up IN GAME. This is
worth thinking about.

As far as people not carrying coin....for about four campouts last year and all the adventure days since then, I have carried enough gold on my person to fund
two castles. Thats a long time that no one bothered to loot me.

I think I have about 30 coins, between silvers and golds. Most of that was won at pit fights. Give me something to buy, and I'll spend the money.
I also think that the problem isn't just the little guys, but also the big guys who don't have much to spend the gold / silver on. Campouts (like some I've seen lately) should sell things in the tavern all the time (not lootable tavern). Creepers' campout even involved selling the relics, which were turned in for points. I mean, how creative is that? Turn in the relics for something in-campout, then return coin to the Darkon coffer by buying it back, which has another in-campout benefit. What's the result? Coin in the Darkon coffer. I think that the problem is that the percentage of coin in the game compared to the amount of money in the game is too low. For instance, Elidor could easily subsume all the coin that exists, legally. Two ways to fix this problem: Deflate the economy by the method exhibited above (recovering coin faster than countries make money), or make more coin. Out of curiosity, does anyone know what a comfortable percentage of hard coin to money would be satisfying to the economy? As a wild guess I'd say we're at 5 to 10%.

We turned in all coin we made at that campout to Devious. I'll be bringing my personal coffer to the campout to give to him as well. Honestly, we need to
be turning all of our coin in every battle or something like that. There should be a rule about coin not going home.

I agree 100%. We should definitely have a "Bank of Darkon" for individual coin turn-ins.
However: 1.) Who to run it? 2.) By what method? 3.) Why would people trust it, given that the game has lost people's credits over the years. Why would coin be different? We should probably brainstorm this, though, as the problem is only going to worsen for the time being. Scarcity will inspire more hoarding. ...and when we get all the new coin, we don't want to see that trend continue. We need a method to stop it. |
